Doesn't it look tiny in the petrol station next to that [small car.

I'd be tempted to guess rear main oil seal for the leak underneath, they all do it sir. I think the early ones of these (no idea on years sorry) still had a rope seal too.

Interesting you say that. What are that tail tale signs that you see which makes you think that? IR thermometer has been saying the drum itself has gotten to 100c, which to me seems way too hot.

I reckon that too. I think this year will be a rubber seal.

It is the colour arond the back plate. I suspect the shoes look a light grey and feel powdery if that makes sense. That rusty orange colour is a sure sign and more commonly seen on front discs when one has been overheating. 100 degrees is way too high for a rear drum.

Webasto roofed MGs are usually worth less than none due to the leaks

Which reminds me, I need to fit the new sealing washers on the wiper shafts to stop the footwells from filling with water. Still not managed to find where or how water is getting into the boot either.

Vulgalor's tip of a light dusting of talc in suspect areas really helps trace leaks.

In comparison to a modern engine they do sound a bit tappy.

Took it for another quick spin. If I release the handbrake, leave in gear and hit the handbrake lever back with a hammer then it does seem to release properly. Admittedly it wasn't a long drive (2 to 3 miles ish) but the rears were 23c and 27c respectively. I'll see what they are like after a longer drive. Just need to keep a close eye on them until I get them rebuilt.

Took the wipers off to replace the rubber sealing washer. I'm hoping this will fix the footwells getting wet when it rains.

Y tho??

Put a bit of touch up paint in that area that had lost a bit of paint.

Now just need to figure out why the boot keeps getting wet when it rains!

Use a different approach: What would make the boot not get wet when it rains?
This school of thinking has often helped me when investigating possible causes for water ingress.

Does it still get wet when it's just parked on the drive?
