Re: Reliable Honda Engine: a project thread
I have absolutely nothing to add to this thread other than well done, you're much better than me for even attempting anything with the gearbox.
Would you have had a go at all this though if you were on your own and didn't have your dad's engineering background?

These are some words.
Re: Reliable Honda Engine: a project thread
Cheers on my own I'm not so sure tbh. I've been working on cars all my life and I learned everything I know off my dad.
The gearbox parts arrive on Monday, it could have been today as the package got to Manchester in the early hours of this morning, maybe FedEx don't do Saturdays, or not on the service I got, who knows. Then it'll be full steam ahead reassembling the Civic.
Meanwhile as noted elsewhere, I've been given the green light to take on stillOrange's Volvo V90.
Old Man is under the impression it's a flipper, but I think my mum wants to keep it as it ticks all the boxes for a car she'd drive. It'll be around for a good while anyway...

Re: Reliable Honda Engine: a project thread
THE FUCKING PARTS ARE WRONG AGAIN AAAAAAAHHHHHHH
I can't be arsed with this any more, I've rejigged all the metal clutches around and put the box back together. I'll just source another autobox in time. The friction plate thingies all look serviceable anyway.
Engine and box shall be mated tomorrow, and hopefully dropped in too. Plumbing it in on Weds, etc.
The 850 is getting an aircon service in the morning too: my mum wanted it done in time for summer, so she rang a bloke she used on her Mini, he was pretty good last time.

Fortunately, only 33% of my cars are Japanese. 25% if you include the Bini.

Re: Reliable Honda Engine: a spectral fleet thread
Took an extra day but it runs, first start and all. Can't find a way to add video that works.
The extra day was down to plumbing and hose clips being shit, and complications with mounting the power steering pump (the new pump was different in design - we used the old one) - the mounting bracket needed a few millimetres cutting off it so it'd mount up properly as it wasn't intended for the new block. Also, the pump pulley needed swapping across as they were of different types, they also mounted differently but as the new engine's pump had a larger ID centre hole, it just swapped over fairly easily. Having worked out what length belt to get by a process of deduction using ones that were lying around, everything was finished, the battery put in, and the fuel pump briefly bridged across the battery for long enough to fill the carb float bowls.
Tomorrow the fuel pump will be more permanently wired in, along with the VTEC solenoid, and it'll be good to go once the bumper is back on.
