Re: What Classic ?
£5k should get you a shoddy example of the most desirable classic car ever.

I suspect £3750 might buy this in a couple of week's time:

The XJ40 is a better car, but preferable? The late 3.4's were good cars for wafting.

Re: What Classic ?
I've had a Mk1 2000 - lovely old thing, pure style, but feels a bit dated beind the wheel.
My Mk2 2500S was another thing entirely and I loved it.... But as stated - they went through banger price ranges and suffered bodges galore for years. I spent forever welding up mine. The exhaust note made it totally worth it though. Just a joy to run around in. Overdrive makes it a complete all rounder
The Senator 24v manual estate was also glorious - but chassis rear legs go and they do love a drink. Autobahn muncher though and another great car.
Of all of them - 2500S with overdrive would be my bring back selection

Re: What Classic ?
Proper Mercs have been mooted but I cannot really endorse them as a choice despite their worth and despite owning a few. They don't have the classic "cachet" that I suspect NnW might be looking for. I enjoyed my W123/4 beyond words but they never gave me that classic "buzz".
