Electric vehicles, pros and cons. Have your say.

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Not seen one EV in Morocco, nor a charging point anywhere.

Yet solar powered ones would be ideal.

There must be some sort of catch in all this EVangelism (sorry).

New York
CNN

Ford’s electric vehicle unit reported that losses soared in the first quarter to $1.3 billion, or $132,000 for each of the 10,000 vehicles it sold in the first three months of the year, helping to drag down earnings for the company overall.

Ouch.

The EU is one thing given the Commission dictats but I expect the US shareholders to push back hard on their domestic manufacturers.

They are just beginners at losing money on ev's. That giant Chinese property company that went bust recently had an ev department. They managed to lose over $5billion without producing a single car!

Edit - it's called Evergrande EV technologies, lost $10 billion, but actually managed to sell 760 cars an 2023.

It seems they are all competing to lose as much as they can. Lucid is doing pretty well with an estimated loss per electric vehicle of around $377,000.

Some of it will be down to their accounting policies, for example how they allocate R&D costs etc. to vehicles and over what time frame. The key is cashflow, as Boeing is now finding out for a different reason. It's more complicated than that but this should be enough to trigger a nap for Mario.
