Eddie Honda's wheels of steel (and occasionally alloy)

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

JIZZ ANDROID MULTIMEDIA MADNESS

Nearly there with this, but a few crinkles to iron out. I think I fucked up my width measurement during last night's "quick" calibration, hence the barrelling of the flanks on the bird's eye view. Also artifacts as the front cam could do with being a little further forward. Full write-up another time (eventually).

It's proof of concept / testrig!

Main goal is to improve hands-free call quality (mic is absolutely shite and too quiet on ciggie lighter FM Bluetooth transmitter)

Secondary is BT streaming audio, both music and podcasts. This is using wireless Android Auto rather than plug in type Android Auto.

It was only a few quid more to add cameras to the bundle. Dash cam is shite (720P, not 1080) and rather basic. 360 bird's eye cam is technically interesting, but the useful part is a reverse camera to avoid running over loitering midgets that are in the blind spot.

360 cam would be beneficial to Tommy to squeeze his 5m x 2m Jaaag into those tiny spaces found in all public car parks that are perfectly sized for an Austin 1100. Althought where the fuck you could fit a visible screen in a X300 dash is up for debate.

The Android headunit has a 360 chip with enough grunt to take the four cameras' bendy wide angle views and flatten/stitch them together.

JIZZ - ELECTRICITY

The Jizz, much like other Japanese cars has a tiny battery (054), with those silly little JIS terminal posts. Following having to do the odd jump start (off a spare battery I carry around) once too often, I'm thinking I'm gonna need a bigger battery.

Last time round I got a heavy duty 054 which is rated at 40Ah 360 CCA (EN1) instead of 36Ah / 330 CCA. I was asking about it in April in the local motor factors and he's only sold the one Yuasa YBX5054 (aye, to me) and that was June 2019. So it's five years old and while it tests okay and starts the car no bother, there's fuck all spare capacity and I've lost one too many times at radio roulette. It's like Tommy's Range Rover!

(I tested it at 340 CCA, as that's what the sticker on it has, must be the new ones that are 360 CCA)

Most people going bigger go for the next longest Japanese battery which is 2 inches longer, 50Ah/450 CCA. That entails ditching the plastic battery bucket and cutting the end of the tray. This is much easier to do with a RHD car as the engine bay fuse boxes are on the opposite side to the battery unlike the LHD models.

As I've got a load of quality used batteries, I tested them for potential fit.

The original 054

Second, a 063, same footprint, just a shorter version of the 012) - up to 52Ah / 520 CCA

Third, a 027, next length up and same height as a 012 - up to 65Ah / 620 CCA

As of now, I can't find the battery tray that was in Jizz 1, so I'll have to head off to the scrappy for some inspiration on making a new one up out of an existing Jizz lower part and a B13 upper part that clamps the battery in by the base.

Like one of these:
