It's a lot of money, but the finest Coupe ever made should be:

I'd love a XJS, but they cost too much these days.

A lovely car that has aged well, like the BMW 635 of that era.
I can't see some of the tetrahedral monstrosities of today lasting as well.

The XJ-S is like the Princess and TR7, derided when new but the size and blandness of moderns makes you see them in a whole new light. I had an XJ-S 30 years ago this year and they were a big car then. Not any more. They're smaller than a current 5 Series.

They do look shit when tatty. A pity so few owners thought them worthy of preservation.

I'm one of the few who think the E24 was a real improvement over the E9 Coupe - a pretty car but with the structural rigidity of a turd and nowhere near as good to drive as the saloons.

Good 6 Series - as in really good - are as rare as good XJ-S's.

This brings back memories.

In the late 70s I was studying to be an accountant at a largish firm, the finance director had a XJ4.2C, apparently he couldn't fit in a XJ-S and I think the wait for a 5.3C was too long, the production director had a 733i and the MD a 450SLC.
Now that was a line up to inspire people.

These cars really are an iconic 50's design.
The quality of the pure, unadulterated horseshit some people can extract from their brains will never cease to amaze me.

If I personally was looking for a restoration project this would be it!
Well, it obviously isn't, which tells me everything I need to know about the car.
