Not really. He comes across to me as rather accommodating for a Frenchman as he'll let you interrupt his lunch with a telephone call.

I'm confused about the pricing.

It says no reserve but the bidding starts at £2k.
This seems to be quite common but why do it this way and not set the reserve at £2k?

Certainly not the best autobox, but considering it shared the same oil as the engine, can hardly be described as a poor attempt. They're a bit clunky but come on, it's over 40 years ago.
