I hadn't realised it was that close to being in use when I saw it. I bet it's a great feeling to use it for the first time.

Just a bit of relief really. You fucked me right up with that V8 and I just want something with lots of cylinders before I become unable to count above 4.

It's an asthmatic V8, it needs a ventilator to help it breathe...

Wasted a load more time this afternoon sorting a way of pulling the front suspension to bits without removing from the vehicle . On first examination these supposedly rebuilt units are in a terrible state.

Serious spunkbubblery has been committed here, on removing the valve block I dug out a load of rusty shit. The valves themselves are OK, so I don't think I don't think it's been driven like this. The whole of unit is very nicely made, though they didn't waste any time chipping slag off welds. This is the one originally on the van. Sadly it has a different type of swivel bearing so can't be swapped over easily.

I made up a frame so that I could get a small hydraulic puller on the bastard- the workshop manual warns that these arn't easy to do even when removed from the car.

Here it is in place. Will try it next week, not hopeful about the condition of the needle rollers or the ease of finding a seal.

That's a bugger when they've been 'rebuilt'.

Yes, I'm now wondering if someone's put soil in there. When the rockers and coil spring are removed and I can see into the reservoir things might become clearer. The kingpin sits on a large single ball which is lubricated by the same oil so I've got to somehow clear the drilling to it. Morgan, I believe, pipe engine lube to each of their kingpins. I'd prefer to apply the occasional squirt to a pair of nipples myself but I suppose their customers are elderly and can't manage it.

There's no harm in it.

Excellent work, Mr Cros. I feebly recalled putting a replacement boot lid for the Minor in my garage with the intent of changing it over at about the same time you started this van. It's still there leaning gently on the brickwork and meanwhile you have built an entire bloody Bedford. Oh, and that green looks spot-on too.
