Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Nothing really happened with this for a while, been doing other boring crap like repointing house walls in the blazing heat! I have however washed it! First time in years as I’ve been so slow finishing the waxing and fitting weather seals. It wasn’t really dirty, just very very dusty. Loads of cobwe...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Got the two wing shields fitted. Exactly the same as the others, chop off the pins and stick on with trim tape. These were a bit more difficult to line up though, they’re an awkward shape and nothing around them is really any good to measure from. I used the Ford owners manual pictures in the end to...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Just found out what a banging noise was under the bonnet when I road tested it…

I forgot to bolt the retaining clamp down on the battery! The bang was the battery almost jumping out of its tray! Oops.

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

The fuel gauge in my Impala has never really worked properly despite a couple of new sender units and changing the gauge. Despite this in my 34 years of ownership I have never run out of fuel. When I fill up I always get the receipt and write the mileage down then when it's done a few miles, say 12...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Cheers guys! Yes, I’m not a fan of playing fuel roulette! You look like a right twat too when you lose! I’ve got a rare new old stock sender for this (totally different unit to most mk2 ones and all mk3 ones), but it’s worth having as a spare I suppose. I do like easy fixes! Especially ones where yo...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Shit the bed, another update! I was doing some late night reading last night about the electrical system on these cars, specifically the instrument binnacle. It turns out that the fuel gauge and temperature gauge both use the same voltage regulator and circuit. So, apparently, if the gauge is at fau...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

The badges look great, they really make a difference. Some years ago I replaced most of the ones on my Impala along with the 'Impala' letters on the rear wings, they still look good. It did help that I could just order reproductions as you can with a lot of US classics. Nice job on the starter, eas...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

I agree. As much as I'd like one, those are exactly the reasons I never will. It's a shame because as cheap cars they were brilliant That’s what they were intended to be new. Affordable transportation that also had a bit of style to it. Something for the average person to be able to buy and run. No...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

I’ve always fancied a Capri but never scratched the itch. One day! They are great cars! Sadly though I think the Capri boat (most Old Ford’s actually!) has sailed for many now. Prices for them have gone absolutely crazy and that’s ruined it for most people now. Priced out of the market. You can sti...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Also got the tailgate badges fitted today. This actually took me ages! Measuring and marking up positions and spacing for the letters, getting them lined up etc etc. I’m absolutely shit with numbers and maths though so that doesn’t help! I’ve shaved off all the pins on the badges and stuck them on i...
