Re: RS's Adventures in Small Renaults

And so we continue. The first issues were all cooling related, the radiator was knackered and the cooling system full of sludge which one day started projectiling out of the expansion tank. A new Hella radiator was acquired for a mere £28 and the sludge eventually cleared out for fresh coolant (I as...

Re: RS's Adventures in Small Renaults

The early 5 drives very differently because it's so compact. The 4 drives like a scale model of an R16, because that's what it essentially is. What catches most people off guard is that they are so much better to drive than they have any right to if you look at the figures on paper. They are also s...

Re: RS's Adventures in Small Renaults

I asked this before on another forum but forgot the answer. So what was the Renault 3? Was this just an even more mingebaggeried Renault 4? Effectively just a base model 4 with a 603cc engine rather than the 4's mighty 747cc. It fitted into the 3CV tax bracket, which is the reason for the name chan...

CLINT wrote: Fri Sep 27, 2019 9:33 am Never driven a 4 but I've had an early 5 and a few 16s. I assume they are somewhere in the muff to drive?
Muff?? What??? Fucking tablet changing my words. I meant middle, obviously.

You're always in the muff when you have a Renault 4.

Re: RS's Adventures in Small Renaults

The problem is that once you've experienced the beautiful spring loaded coinholder in a BX no others can compare. DSC00454.JPG DSC00455.JPG The R4's motorway performance is one of its most surprising aspects, particularly how stable and planted it feels at those kind of speeds. It shrugs off sidewin...

Re: RS's Adventures in Small Renaults

And so to the other small Renault on the fleet. DSC00366.JPG I’d not set out to buy a Renault 4, I’d instead been looking for a Superfive but one day this GTL came up in my eBay searches. The advert was terrible, the pictures made it look like little more than scrap fodder and in that light the £150...

Re: RS's Adventures in Small Renaults

Indeed, it is far too good for me.

I'm hoping that it'll be much easier to keep this in good nick than trying to turn my usual abused, rusty shitheaps into something nice.

Re: RS's Adventures in Small Renaults

That was the plan, but big cars were ruled out and we quickly found that small autos are either terrible or expensive, or often both. We did look at Kangoo automatics but they were all twice the price of this and none of them were as nice. Mk1 Clios were never really considered until this showed up ...

RS's Adventures in Small Renaults

The time for me to start a thread or two for my various old heaps is well overdue, so let's start off with the latest entry to the fleet. DSC00430 (2).JPG It all started with Mrs_Renault Sierra's need of a small, economical, hopefully reliable car. Unfortunately finding such a thing these days means...

Re: OMG GGG TNT - Only for The Climate™ Improvement®

We'd actually gone there to see their other Corona. DSC00382-min.JPG But naturally it didn't get much of a look in once we'd found an example of the less desireable model in worse condition. It was keeping company with a rather less rareified Corolla, which clearly couldn't muster the sheer prestige...
