Re: 1966 Volvo 121
I would be considering manifold depression and the cutting out is due to the inlet being unable to deal with a sudden change in vacuum. I’d be checking very carefully the breathing arrangements including crankcase ventilation and for possible air leaks. I was sent an inlet manifold gasket by a spec...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
So it idles happily at a higher road speed? Apologies if you've mentioned this already. Yes, it idled down in neutral fine until whatever the speed before stationary (10-20mph) was. I think if anything it's returning to idle too lean/weak if anything, as pulling the choke out slightly stops it from...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
That's how I was taught to drive, Josh - and I'm not changing it for the sake of a stupid fault on a car that needs fixing. Synchromesh exists for a reason. Some of you seem keen for me to drive around this problem; sorry, but I am not prepared to drive around it. It didn't do it before and I'm not ...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
UPDATE: Had a mate of a mate come over today because he didn't understand wtf the car was doing and when I took him out in it he was even further baffled. He reckoned it was down to the mixture setting on the carburettor. Did the C70/Ben test (not a Bentervention) and knocked it into neutral at 70 a...

If you were to knock it into neutral at 70mph would it just die or return to idle as it's rolling?
What's the answer?
Ben
Shocking day yesterday. Worth a try.

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
I liked and responded to Captain70s' post.
I'll respond the posts in full or in part based on what's I think is useful, thanks.
Apparently because I now have to answer every goddamn section of the posts now, no, I'm knocking the car into neutral at 70 to see what it does.
Maybe on a rolling road.

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
What the fuck does 'my BIL has a working one' and 'you're upset the car gods' have to do with helpful commentary?
I have answered every single other useful post in kind.

Whatever the issue is it's probably gonna' be some dumb bullshit nobody'll ever think of.
Is that how we sort this?
Think of the stupidest nonsense it could plausibly be and go looking for it?

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
It'll stall from speed regardless of what you do with it, engine braking or no engine braking.
