much pre-80s stuff is a bit sketchy above 70mph on the motorway. Bollocks. My Triumph Herald would cruise at 90mph very happily. As would many 60s and 70s cars. Ben Top speed of the most powerful herald 13/60 is 85mph. Everything else is slower.... So flat out on the level. A load of Bollocks in ac...

I'd be looking at something from the Rootes stable, Arrow or Audax (particularly later cars with 1725 engine). Loads of improvement potential, some nice interiors in many and not bad for spares compared to some. Reasonable compromise between size and ease of entry and exit with a decent roadability...
