Re: Sics Consolidated Moderns Thread - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E320 Estate

Mine was fitted with fairly new Davanti tyres when I got it. They have been surprisingly good. My old man had a set of them fitted to his 350Z because he's tight and we were driving to Portugal the next day, they've been surprisingly good as well. I've driven it in some very, very heavy rain and al...

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances

Why would it not work with the old bits? It's not exactly cutting edge technology is it? Instead of an engine rebuild can you get an exchange engine? It's burning a ton of oil. While it past a compression test it can only be the rings so was going for a rebuild. This of course has put oil in the la...

Re: What did you do today?

On the V50 I filled the filter as best I could and then disconnected the return line, priming it on the pump a bit and then winding it until fuel emerged, reconnected and then started, apparently they are a twat to pump. In the past on a 307 diesel of the old mans I turned up when a lad that did a f...

Re: Any HDI fondlers provide help?

Yeah, it'll definitely help. I always do it if I'm in fear of overheating, especially if there's a known leak. When the blower goes cold, pull over and top the fucker up! Part of the reason I tended to go for 405's was they all seem to have a low water level sensor. Much more sense than the 205 I h...

Re: Any HDI fondlers provide help?

It's not really a "trick" though is it? It's called doing the job properly as recommended by the manufacturer. It's a handy trick if you're unaware of that. 20 years ago I didn't know it was an issue and I scrapped an engine on a NAD 405. I'd been happily motoring, only topping up when th...

Re: Any HDI fondlers provide help?

Some of those 90s cars were problematic because of how low the radiators were as much as their size, made cars prone to HGF if they even lost a little coolant. Difficult to 'burp' some of them in my limited experience too. Those low bonnet designs were as much a product of styling as a desire for l...

Sounds like it's indicating a stuck/sticking stat Bub if it's taking an age to warm up? Stat should be 83 C from what I can see?

Re: Any HDI fondlers provide help?

XUD's create a lot more heat in the head, because IDI and pre combustion chamber. DI's don't run as hot. The main reason Darren Lobb went away from them and did what he did was the excess heat and, not being able to get rid of it. Thread drift FAO Scruffy, did you see he has revived his channel and...
