Re: Dan's Crapi project.

No penny washers , my Fiesta door mirrors have a darn great ribbed plate sandwiching the door skin .. That’s probably the best way to do it. These came with nothing apart from the mirror, threaded studs and nuts. Both were the same and both were new old stock, still boxed even! Seems bizarre not ha...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

The Mk1 mirror is slightly different. Unless of course they used the new mirror on the last mk1’s? The ones on mine have part numbers starting with 74 so first production in 1974, same year as the Mk2. Pretty sure the Mk1 version has a slightly different base shape as I did consider using a pair of ...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Weird. Looks like a newish car there too. I managed to sort out the fuel door today, bit of sealing required and a bit of touch up paint to put on inside the fuel cap recess where I had to make some alterations but it’s all now looking and working as it should. Basically, the bodyshop made a bit of ...

Strange!? Wonder if it was used for towing maybe? Perhaps extra mirrors for better trailer or caravan visibility?
Or maybe it was a mod’s car!

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Some mk2’s did have wing mirrors. Only early ones though. To begin with when the Mk2 was first released, there was no standardisation with mirrors. Some got one version or another depending on spec and customer options ticked. Some early cars didn’t even have mirrors fitted from new! It was only lat...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

It wasn’t nice drilling the holes! One slip or wrong place and your fucked!
I measured and remeasured many times to be absolutely sure though, transferring measurements side to side so both are exactly the same.
Just got to do it in the end though! It’s done now though so worry over.

I can remember waxoiling my Mk 2 Capri back in about 1982, it was a waste of time as it doesn't look to have survived after 1986
1982… two years before I was even born!! Shows how old these cars are now! They shouldn’t still be here really.

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Next up, a simple job, but one that (imho!) makes a fairly big visual difference, but could have been a disaster if I’d got it wrong! Door mirrors. Again, my car being early, there’s a specific mirror type my car almost certainly would have had from new. It’s very similar to some late Mk1 door mirro...

Re: Dan's Crapi project.

Next was to drill the holes for the A post pin switches for the courtesy lights. I couldn’t find any details for exactly where these go as new, so I just winged it by comparing photos on other cars. My car being an early Mk2 it’s supposed to have the old round Mk1 type switch. These simply push into...
