Re: 1966 Volvo 121
Doing what it does best, presently. https://i.ibb.co/DMWbjTG/IMG-20200816-211241.jpg I do have the hub caps, I think my mate had the wheels off to bleed the wheel cylinders. It's missing the drip rail brightwork (again, which I have) because they're a bugger to fit and there's a paint run in the gut...

https://i.ibb.co/k5JHhtr/IMG-20200816-182001.jpg This is the best image I have of the carb in situ. It's the choke linkage, rather than the throttle, that's a bit bodged. https://i.ibb.co/K0H2k2W/IMG-20200816-181730.jpg That's the air cleaner upside down with my friend's 3D printed adaptor wedged i...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
As you all know my mechanical knowledge can be written on a postage stamp with a felt tip pen but I don't see why it only happens after NSL runs: I need someone to help me cure an infuriating fault it has - cutting out at junctions after runs at NSL. Wouldn't the problem surface at other times? I'm...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
I'd be looking throttle linkage type places too. I assume idle speed is correct? turning it up a couple of hundred rpm might be worth a try. If it helps then it'd point to the carb as it drops onto the idle circuit. Idle speed is as per Volvo workshop manual. Been trying to get the best setting for...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
Was the webber a conversion carb or just something people say fits it. It's a conversion carb kit (a Zenith equivalent) sold by either Nordcar or Scandcar, the name escapes me right now. Thing is, the Zenith had no throttle dampener and did exactly the same thing, and that was with an OEM throttle ...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
The throttle linkage *is* a bodge job, now that people have mentioned it.
We/I have had trouble getting the carb to run on to its idle circuit.
Are generic throttle cable dampeners available?

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
Two carbs from two different manufacturers showed exactly the same symptoms. Aaah, my mistake. I thought the Zenith that fell to bits was functional until it wasn't. Nothing fucky about the throttle linkage anywhere causing the idle to drop too low momentarily? Both the Dolly (SUs) and Acclaim (Kei...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
Given it happens when the airflow under the bonnet ceases and the engine's hot I'd guess it's fuel vapourisation. If it was vapour locking it wouldn't start up again straight away. I had considered an electric pump to keep feeding it cold fuel and CDC has one of those tiny temporary electric pumps ...

Re: 1966 Volvo 121
Two carbs from two different manufacturers showed exactly the same symptoms. I'm not sure it's the carb. I am deeply baffled by the cult-like following of SUs. I've run out of digits to represent the people who were adamant a pair of SU HS6s (as per a 122S) would 'absolutely' fix the problem, but we...
