Dolly on truck

Dolly in storage. Yes there is some very nice metal in where I store my cars.

Incidentally if anyone needs a good, reliable guy to transport cars around and near Bristol, I would 100% recommend Nigel Jones. He was recommended to me by my own garage and my wifes friend. I used him before quite a few years ago when my Scenic shat itself.

Turned up on time, super friendly and had the right gear. He uses this smaller truck for lighter jobs but also has a bigger truck for heavier. He charged 100 quid for moving this around 40 minute journey away. Plus he loaded it and helped me unload it at the other end.

Pulled this out.

Absolutely filthy. It got dirty on the back roads up to the storage when I put it away and the old battery chicken cages above the car seem to drip oil out occasionally. Will need to get a cover for it next time.

Forgot how much I absolutely love this car. Torquey, turbine smooth engine. Old school driving position but with everything just in the right place. Started right up first time too. No doubt helped being on the CTEK charger.

Ignition lock is even more troublesome at the moment.

Notice how it doesn't clunk off when the key is removed. Hitting the dash for now seems to get it to do it. If you don't, the car isn't shut off properly and you get excessive power drain. Next job is to replace the electrical switch portion.

Also the wiper switch is a bit sticky and stiff. Hopefully that will loosen up a bit when the car gets used a bit more again.

Coolant bottle I put a new cap on. That seems to have fixed the major coolant leak it was having. I still have a replacement coolant tank to be fitted as they're a known weak point too.

Top mounts also need seeing to. Currently not noisy like they were but the steering isn't as planted as it should be.

Got all the bits to fix but don't have the time. May have to outsource this to a garage to fix. My local garage have said they would do the suspension but I've not asked them about the tank. Tank is DIY'able but bit of an arse without a lift. Only thing is that they've not done any proper work on a Boxster before, so I'm not 100% I want them to do it.

Panhard65 if you're reading this, would you be interested taking it on? I know you did some proper jobs on the Boxster you had and you know your way around them alright. Dunno of course how busy your diary is at the moment either.

That's what I had done, they needed new nozzles though. The tractor was probably working for 30 years in Japan so not surprising they were too worn to just reset. A while back there were no cheap nozzles about for 200 tdis, it was a horrible price to get them done.

Yes I could take it on but budget for it needing proper 4 wheel alighnment after which sometimes means it needs new bottom arms etc if the adjusters don't come undone. They are right little buggers to get set up properly and a lot of places that say they do 4 wheel alighnment don't do more than tracking. I had mine done by SCS Porsche in Honiton 01404 549921. They were pretty good and rang me up to say it needed bottom arms which they let me fit before dropping it back for the alighnment. That was £100 well spent as it transformed the handling having it set up right. I am booking the second week in March at the moment though as it seems to be getting busy round here all of a sudden. It might be worth giving SCS a call for a quote to do all the work they might not be silly money as they don't insist on genuine Porsche parts and use Euro's for suspension arms as they reckon they are decent quality.

Yeah I thought it would need four wheel alignment doing after. I guess it's still drivable after the top mount work without it being realigned? Just a bit squirrelly until done.

I've got the top mounts in the boot ready. From Design911 and Meyle branded. I was fully intending to do myself but so little spare time at the moment. Also got it's MOT coming up in April, so would like it sorted before then really.

It is due for a service anyway, so was intending to get that done at a specialist for the stamp. Just wanted to get all these other bits done as rather not pay specialist prices on every small bit that needs doing.

I pretty sure my mum uses SCS Porsche for her 997 Cayman. They live in Sidmouth, hence I'm pretty certain. I know whoever she uses, they have been good. Much better than Steve Bull Chippenham way who were forever trying to find work to do on it. I do have an adversion to any garage that I don't know that well, hence why I haven't thrown it at a specialist yet.

Blimey that's not just blown a little bit had it? Are you going for the long term fix with new dowels and all the modified parts?
Doesn't look very nice, but the N type modified oil rail isn't going to help in this instance. From what I understand for a multi layered gasket to work you need the liners to be a consistent height, 4 thou above the block face ideally. Mine vary between 1 and 3, so it will get the polymer gasket which is said to cope better in this situation.
As far as I can tell the majority of the coolant entered the sump via the inlet manifold gasket- this item was broken between the inlet port and the manifold waterway. Sometimes there was a misfire on starting and the combustion chamber nearest this is different colour to the other 3.
In the spirit of not polishing a turd I have adjusted the quality of consumables which will be lavished on the wretched vehicle in the future. Thus along with the14 quid head gasket, I'm pleased to have found lubricant at £12 a gallon including delivery.

(Silver Hook, surely the scabbiest ever name) A bit mean of me, but its not as niggardly as Landrover were when they built it using old knicker elastic.

I buy the 20 litre 10/40 mannoil stuff, it’s good and can be had for £35 for a tub.
Just when I thought I was out they dragged me back in.

I'll have some of that. I always check for lumps when I'm using the cheap stuff.
