Hate to say it but I bet that beauty went round the track. What a pity, that doesn't look too bad for a Humber. How old is the picture?

Yeah I think you are sadly right about its fate....I think the photo was taken about 2005/6.

Now that is interesting. It would have started off as a 'limousine' from the factory (just the nomenclature for a dividing partition), then stretched elsewhere with estate car doors and that rear light, which I agree looks FX4. Never seen nor heard of one. With your consent I could send your pic into the club mag and see if anything comes of it.

I would love a Mk.1 Hunter, the best styling from the old Minx but the more powerful engine.

Last scan for today, highly inspired by Slowanimal's always welcome pic posts........

A tale of two Hillmans.

Separated by 3 digits and 40 years, the black and white photo of the Minx Californian must have been taken when the car was a matter of months old, in November 1954. Unfortunately the information on the back of the pic is in German and illegible handwritten German to boot....

I took the lower picture myself in a scrappy in Corfe Mullen, Dorset in the mid 1990s. The Minx saloon was not in too bad a shape but sadly doesn't appear to have survived.

Almost certainly they would have come from the same Rootes dealer in the Bristol/Somerset area - quite a coincidence how their images have ended up in my collection - I really must catalogue all the thousands of car images I have so that they form some kind of archive rather than a Mr Trebus pile.....

Heres me and my brother being abducted just outside our house. The car was a Ford Model Y, then around 30 years old and still in excellent condition. Sadly MOTs had just come in and these small Fords suffered a high rate of attrition, so for both car and owner this was the end of the road.

My Aunt Sally had an identical Model Y back in the late 50's, hers was as I recall also in good condition. I've always liked them but as said in came the MoT test and many went onto the stock car tracks as Formula 2 stockers. A friend has one such car which is raced quite regularly, it is a survivor stock car that raced way back when.

I had one of those, bought from an ex-RAF Bomber Command Halifax crew chaps (my mate's stepdad) for £100 in about 1981, ELD974J. It was a 2000 version, was very reliable but shall we say a tad unkempt? The RHD wing was a monument to Isopon P38 and the wing mirror slowly descended into the wing. I fixed that by removing the mirror and putting duct tape over the offending hole. Got stopped in a plod check late one night in Forest Hill Sarf London and the officer did ask if had an MoT which it did. They were really looking for suspicious vehicles being used by terrorists so he let me on my way. That Victor had a lot of escapades but never let me down. Eventually the rust was advancing, it only had front brakes after a rear brake line started weeing itself (fixed by clamping it off with an adjustable spanner!) and then somehow the drivers door window mysteriously broke while it was parked about a foot from the side of my '63 Galaxie. So off it went to where a friend had his vehicle paint shop to be dumped by the hedge along with a Mercury Cougar and a Jensen GT. Still remember it fondly.

From memory, don't recall hearing of the humber race as a banger. Doesn't prove anything, mind.
As I suspected I was right about everything.
