Rust removal, conversion

My plan is to sand it then treat with Jenolite (which is basically phosphoric acid), can anybody see any obvious flaws in this plan?

Either get it sandblasted by a sympathetic experienced sandblaster who won't buckle it or get it chemically dipped.

Jenolite works OK but I have had better results with Vactan. Same kind of process but no washing off - it just stays on, going black to confirm the conversion process. It also offers much better pre-paint protection if you get held up between rust conversion and priming. Areas I have treated with Vactan followed by zinc primer (I use Bilt-Hamber's as it sands back to a good finish) have held up very well so far.

Stone-chip the underside while its off too - I forgot that bit when I did the Minor wings and one of them has come through already (although it was ten years ago...)

Ya cannae use sand blasting on that twill distort it. Although it may not fit all that great anyway. Is it a weld on? I use Loctite SF rust remedy, bang it on thoroughly, leave it somewhere warm and dry. Then clean the black off thoroughly with thinners and prime immediately. I'm not convinced that cellulose or any other paint for that matter sticks to the black complex that the acid forms with the steel; all those rust remedies are acids, some phosphoric, some citric and no doubt others. I am a keen proponent of underseal, though just blowing it on isn't gonna do. I prime and usually apply topcoat on the insides of wings then brush on underseal thinned down with white spirit or petrol if it's safe to do so.

You could use bilt hambers deox c if you have something big enough to put it in or deox gel if not.
In my experience you have to be pretty quick to prime it after treatment otherwise you get flash rusting.

I had the air filter and the scuttle panel on my Thunderbird soda blasted then etch primed. The are still looking good but haven't been out much

There’s a breaker with the front of a mk2 tranny in Rochdale near the tip. It’s a light blue cab and looks to be complete with wings and bonnet, doors etc.

I’ll ask the next time I go past this week if you need anything.

Non rotten bonnet? Headlights with silvering? TBH it's a complete RHD front cut and it's not pox rotten I would be interested in the whole thing
