INCIDENT LAST MAY

LATEST

14:55 22/04/2021

A drug-driver who caused this horrific crash – after driving at 120mph and racing with another vehicle – has been jailed.

Police were called after a black BMW 330 crashed into a tractor and trailer on The Broyle (B2192) shortly before 6pm on 18 May 2020.

The tractor had been turning left into Half Mile Drove when the collision occurred, and the impact caused it to overturn. Its driver – a 41-year-old man from Hailsham – suffered serious facial injuries and temporary sight loss. He was taken to hospital and later discharged.

The BMW driver was identified as Harry Dennis, 21, of Maple Close, Maresfield. He also sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. His front seat passenger – a 22-year-old local man – did not require hospital treatment.

A blood sample was taken, which showed Dennis had at least 3mcg of cannabis per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit is 2mcg.

Investigations revealed he had overtaken a Honda Civic and reached speeds of 120mph – double the national speed limit of 60mph on that stretch of road – before he crashed into the tractor.

He was subsequently summonsed to court to face charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving under the influence of drugs.

The Honda driver – who left the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services – was identified as Danny Stiller, 22, of St. Marks Field, Hadlow Down. He was also summonsed to court to face charges of dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.

In police interview, Dennis admitted being at fault and said he was too inexperienced to drive the BMW which he had purchased only the day before.

He apologised for his actions and denied racing the Honda, but CCTV and witness statements obtained during the investigation proved both vehicles were travelling at speed and in convoy with one another moments before the crash.

Stiller had called 999 and stated he witnessed the collision, but later provided a signed witness statement to police stating he did not see what happened.

Dennis pleaded guilty to both offences, and at Lewes Crown Court on 20 April he was sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment. He was also disqualified from driving for two years and eight months.

Stiller pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment – suspended for 18 months – and disqualified from driving for 12 months. He is also required to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and is subject to an electronic tag for three months.

He was found not guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and the offence of perverting the course of justice is to lie on file.

*COURT REPORT*

#pursuit
#scumbag

Dated: 23 April 2021 11:28:26
Earlier this week (21 April) a man appeared before court for sentencing following a dangerous, high-speed pursuit through North Sheffield.

Aaron Hartigan, 24, of Pot House Lane, Sheffield was charged with serious injury by dangerous driving following a pursuit that left two victims with lasting injuries, including one victim with a broken back in 2018.

On 13th August, PC Wes Turner from the Roads Policing Group was on patrol in Chapeltown when he became aware of a Volvo S60 driving in an inappropriate manner.

PC Turner explains more, he said: “I became aware of a Volvo S60 and its driver, who was later identified as Hartigan driving at speed and dangerously through Sheffield.
“I eventually caught up with the car, which was driving in excess of 90mph and was overtaking vehicles dangerously, including on blind bends. I illuminated my blue lights and requested the vehicle to stop.

“Hartigan failed to do so and a pursuit commenced. At one point in the pursuit, Hartigan passed through a red traffic light narrowly avoiding a collision with other vehicles crossing in front of him. Hartigan came to a stop after colliding with a bus and Ford Focus on Blacksmith Lane, Grenoside.

The Ford Focus was spun around 180 degrees and the passenger of the car, a 61 year-old woman suffered a broken back.

“Hartigan exited his vehicle and fled the scene, with no regard for the injuries he had caused to others. He was later caught and arrested.”

Hartigan maintained his innocence throughout questioning, delaying the case. Hard work from our Roads Policing Group ensured that Hartigan was put before the courts, where he pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving on 14 April.

“Hartigan showed no remorse for his actions or the physical and emotional pain and distress he caused.

Hartigan was sentenced on 21 April to three years in prison and has been disqualified from driving for four and a half years. Hartigan will have to take an extended driving test to get his licence back.

MOTORCYCLIST WITH APT NAME GETS 6 MONTHS CLINK FOR PORKIES

Tuesday, 20 April 2021

On the 22nd June, 2019 a cyclist was riding his bicycle along the A4061, Bwlch Road into Tonypandy when a Suzuki GSXR 750 Motorcycle passed the cyclist closely. The motorcycle was clearly travelling at high speed and the motorcyclist was also conducting a wheelie. This dangerous incident was captured on camera attached to the bicycle and was subsequently submitted by the cyclist to Operation SNAP.

The registered keeper of the motorcycle was Mr. Daniel Allegretto[ ] from Ogmore Vale to whom we sent out a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). Mr. Allegretto returned the documents, naming an individual from the Merthyr area as being the rider at the time of the offence.

A NIP was issued to the nominated person who subsequently denied being the rider, and in fact stated that they were out of the country on a family holiday at the time of the offence.

The Central Ticket Office (CTO) relayed this information to Mr. Allegretto, who in return produced falsified documentation, stating that he had sold the motorcycle on the morning prior to the offence.

Following Mr. Allegretto’s denial that he was the rider, Sergeant 3325 Pearce, an Enquiry Officer for GoSafe who run Operation SNAP, proceeded to open an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the offence, and subsequent offence of Perverting the Course of Justice.

A protracted investigation identified evidence that the Motorcycle was not sold at the time stated by Allegretto, and was in fact being ridden by him.

The matter proceeded to trial at Cardiff crown court in March 2021 and on the 12th March the Jury found Mr. Allegretto unanimously guilty of Perverting the Course of Justice.

He was subsequently sentenced to six months imprisonment and handed a fine of £1,100.
