Why didn't stopped to look occur to them? I wonder if driving like that is better or worse than on a flat? I'd hate to try & do motorway speeds with the steering dragging as hard as a flat tyre does, I can only assume that once the rubber has gone the steering doesn't feel as bad.

Steering wouldn't drag much if at all with a rear out. Might be tail happy as fuck when not going straight ahead.
