The horrendous fuel economy wouldn't help either.

Fella with fuegobird looks like Rowan Atkinson on the one day he was considered to be fashionably dressed.

My old man briefly had a mondeo v6 ghia auto as a taxi. He said it was rather painful to run and that's why it didn't stay long

... has reminded me of an incident that happened a month and a half into my taxi career, Christmas Day to be exact.

As it was double fare I thought I'd nip out at lunchtime to see if it was busy before having Crimbo Dinner with my family.

To be honest, it wasn't that busy but as luck might have it, as I was about to go back to my family I got a job to pick up at the pensioner's bungalows in Pensby going to Prenton Hall Road in Prenton, the trip listed below.

A trip of four miles which then clocked £12 on double fare, not bad then for a ten minute job. I arrive at the pick up address and after a couple of minutes, a little old lady who was well into her eighties appears with an armfull of presents for her family. I ask her where she's going and she says Prenton Hall Road, the same road in the above picture. After ten minutes we get there and I ask her what number does she want and she doesn't know! That road has a couple of hundred door numbers and she's not sure which house it is! She see's a house that's quite familiar to her so I hop out of my Montego and knock on the door with a tenner on the clock already.

The door is answered by a bloke with a party hat on wondering why he's been disturbed. I ask him if the lady in the back of my Montego is his granny and he politely says no. Being a kind soul, he knocks next door for a phone book (£12 on the meter by now) and a lady comes out holding the winning half of a Xmas cracker! We apologise and explain the situation to her and she gets a phone book. Apparently, the little old ladies family are ex directory. As it was the season of goodwill to all men, she suggests knocking at the house opposite as the lady who lives there moved in over 40 years ago and knows everyone!

The lady answers the door holding a turkey drumstick and fortunately is sympathetic to our plight of trying to get a granny to her family for Xmas dinner. Even though this woman is the font of all local knowledge, she's never heard of my passenger's family. All three of us join my, now quite upset, passenger in my Montego to see if we could work out where her family lives. By now there's £16 clocked up and I've only just remembered that I left my mobile at home so I can't even let my family I'm going to be late.

Granny remarks that she's got her son's address written in a book at home and asks me to drive her back to her bungalow to find her address book. I take her back home, now £26 on the meter, and after ten minutes emerges out of her house, book in hand (£28 now). Back in the car we scour her little black book to see where her son lives and after a few minutes, I find it! 1** Prenton Dell Road!!!! The road that runs alongside Prenton Hall Road that she first told me to take her to!

I finally rock up at her son's house with £40 on the clock, and just to make fucking sure, I leave her in the car and knock on the door. Her son answers demanding to know it's taken so long to drop her off, he'd booked the taxi for her, I go to great lengths to explain the above story to him and tell him of the great lengths that the people of Prenton had gone to on Christmas day just to help his mum. I explain the miles I've had to cover on double fare and the fact that I'm late to join my family and notice that he looks stony faced.

I fetch his mum from the back of my Montego and she thanks me for my trouble and goes to join her family. Her son asks me how much does he owe me for the running around his mum caused. I feel really guilty at this point with it being a little old lady wanting to see her family for Christmas day, coupled with the fact I'm not a total fucking mercenary cunt, I half the fare clocked and tell him to just give me £20. He turns purple, gets a £20 note out of his wallet, screws it up, throws it down his path, calles me a robbing cunt and slams the door on me!
