Way better condition from first glance at looking at. Need to have a good look underneath of course as ADO16, but I might* just have bagged a bargain.

Colour is not factory and possibly a bit modern. But it's a nice deep shade to my eye and I like it.

It was running to get it on the trailer. Left it idling happily away but now seemed to have died. Fresh fuel in but still not wanting to stay running.

Plugs messy.

Cleaned these up but still refusing to rev or idle. Also topped up dashpots. Points look not too bad but will have another closer look.

No fuel filter, so will pull the float bowl and see what is in there. Electric pump is ticking but unknown how well.

Could do with it running as it'll make it easier to get in the garage for having a better closer look. Especially on the underside. 😬

All in all, so far, it seems to have been a good purchase!

Thought initially Hydrolastic explosion but thinking that's more coolant.

Possibly dripping onto fan? It wouldn't take a big loss to get thrown around like that. Seems to have been painted with a stripped engine bay so it has had some degree of love.

Ok some live updates.

She's not running that sweetly.

Air filter fit for the bin.

Plugs sooted up. I've cleaned these and a little better but not a huge amount. Points look alright. Cap is newish and rotor is a newish red rotor. Not looked closer at condenser yet to see if a crappy or good.
Image

Float bowl has fuel. Is this enough? First time I've properly got into HS carbs. MGB are HIFs. Doesn't look like it should be a problem though.
Image

Back of engine on radiator side looks like it's had a watery explosion at some point. Initially thought Hydrolastic but thinking maybe coolant.

Under rocker cover is wet. Breather pipe had actual water come out of it.

Mayo all over.

Dipstick looks clean though.

Just gone in to change clothes to something more appropriate for car work.

Thoughts/suggestions on what to try next?

Get some new oil in it and give it a good warm up, very often the valves will be clagged up as well as the plugs, set the timing, find the correct idle speed and set the mixture up.

Not got any oil here unfortunately as thats all currently in my in-laws as they stored it when we were moving.

I'll probably make a list up of stuff and have a trip down to Moss in Bristol tomorrow morning.
