So today was delivery day and the DKW has arrived from Ireland. I say DKW but it isn't really it is an Auto Union 1000. The paperwork is a bit of a nightmare as the Belgium registration says it is a 1957 which it can't be as this body didn't enter production until '58 and front disc brakes came out in '62. There is another document that is a customs ticket that is dated 1962 so hopefully I can use that to register it. Anyway that is the first nightmare I have got myself in, but the rest is a mix of good and bad news. The good is it has been converted to 12 volt and is in really solid condition with just a poor paintjob spoiling it. The interior is also good so no welding or bodywork required. The bad news is the missing bits. It has no brakes due to the front calipers being missing along with one rear wheel cylinder. The wiper motor is also missing and the points set up is from a wartburg. I need to find out how much is interchangeable with the wartburg as I might be able to fit electronic ignition to it. So what have I got then.
