They're probably considering it as they are pushing ahead with the *smart motorways despite the safety risks

Because they're going ahead with it now and that was the best article that I could find about it without spending much time on it that wasn't behind a paywall.

If that's the case make it 56 then at least nobody's fighting with truck limits*

Blanketing 55 here didn't do shit other than slow people down.

I guess that the truck limit in the UK could go up to 60 mph after 1/1/21.

I don't see it happening though, nor 56 as it wouldn't be clear by glancing at the speedo whether you're speeding or not whereas 60 is a clearly defined mark.

Yep overtaking a truck at 57 will be a drag if you can only do 60.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

Our local motorway (M27) has been under a blanket 50 limit for some time owing to conversion to "smart" (#makeawordmeanopposite) configuration. It is a complete and utter fucking ball-ache using it at the moment. Plus they have already had some interesting moments with broken-down stuff in live lanes as it is. A low blanket speed just means three lanes doing the same rate. Avoidance lane-changing opportunities become more dangerous, not less.

There seems to be some pressure to revert so called smart motorways to the old fashioned dumb ones judging by various articles I've read in the last few months. I assume it's fear of being sued for the deaths that they cause rather than an outbreak of common sense.

No, Chinese ones go the other way, a man of your calibre should know that.
