A moist ‘oh ya b@stard’ finger on or around the wheels might be a fair indicator as well (if your thermal tech is too deeply stuffed in junk). Obviously when stopped... :P
Had the issue on something or other in the past and the alloy was getting hot too.
That said, at £30 a corner, it may just be best to swap them both anyway.

They are very recent discs and pads as well.
The callipers are only £30 each. I might just change them both.
Did you put copper grease behind the pads?

Yup. They already had some on from just being fitted as well.
As I slow right up it becomes more of a grinding squeak. It's queer af.

When you say it's not from the back because the noise doesn't happen when you yank the handbrake, are you sure the parking brake doesn't use a separate drum either in or out of the rear discs?

The rears are just old fashioned drums. I can't remember the last time I owned a car so easy to work on. Tha's why this is doing my head in.

Not the back plate rubbing ? or an incorrectly fitted pad wear warning clip ?. Strip them down and have a look it shouldn't be too hard to find, but as Sic says poor quality pads is a strong possibility.

I stripped them completely last week. It was fine for twenty miles or so after. There's no back plate or wear clips. The car has just the basic, bare minimum of everything.
I've just checked the wheels after thirty miles and they're both slightly warm to the touch.
It can only be a calliper. I'll just change the pair.
I've suffering from a serious case of cba at the minute. It'll have to wait.

Both front callipers seizing at the same time is rare.

They're only £30 each. I'll just change them both and be done with it.
The discs and pads look new.
