Ah yes, I'll post up my 'effort' on that one on the Diecast thread.

I also gave the rubber seal and connector from my oil extractor a wash in warm soapy water as they have been oil soaked for several years. Perhaps the seal has swollen?

The cap on top of the tank that the pump connects to looks fine to me so if the cleaning hasn't worked I reckon a new rubber seal would fix it as it's only an o ring which probably costs a few pence.

Went to change the OSR caliper on the 75 today but the wheel bolts had been massively overtightened by the garage that replaced my brake lines.

Also worrying was that I have form for bringing cars to my local tyre place with this issue and they weren't happy last time. I was planning on getting 2 new tyres for the 75 next week as well.

Even my mains impact gun wouldn't touch them.

Cue a plea in the local Rover owners Facebook page and the chap that I gave my old wind deflectors to last week came over with a 4ft scaffolding bar and I got all but 2 nuts undine before the ratchet died. That's on the only wheel that doesn't need to come off so I'll worry about that later.

I bloody scraped my wheel on the scaffolding tube though but needs must.

I hate garages that do that, I've got into the habit of cracking wheel nuts off as soon as I get home from a garage & redoing them myself. Unless it's my regular garage who get it right.

Am I hearing right that you used a 4ft scaffy pole with a RATCHET?? I'm surprised the thing didn't die sooner.

Breaker bar!

I've got a 1/2" drive Sealey AK730 600mm long from a motor factors. Can't remember how much it was as it was going cheap cheap that particular visit, so just bought it. I could see me killing it on something deadly tight though. Last time I fucked a breaker bar was a similar 600mm effort, but that had a scaffy pole on it too and I fucked then end. Had to get a new end for the bar before getting the wheel bolts out of that one.

For that reason, if I get another, it'll be a 3/4" drive 1m long monster.

Yeah it was an old ratchet but a good Halfords one, it was the only way to get a right angle on it. The teeth inside sheared inside with only 2 bolts to go. By the time I messaged the guy again to say thanks he already had it rebuilt from spares at home.

I need a solid wheel key not made of Chinesium and that has a proper right angle. The Rover one was just slipping off as it's about 80 degrees bend on it.

It took me back to undoing HGV wheels as a 9 stone 15 year old weakling 25 years ago but I could still manage it! The equipment being up to the job was what helped.

My record is a 9ft scaff pole on a 3/4" drive to get the crank bolt out of a LR TDi. I was stood on the slam panel & the bar was at shoulder height. Not the best angle but the only way to get to it. I'd tried a shorter bar & a jack from underneath & could lift the car on it. When it let go I nearly fell off the car, which could have hurt.

Those double-angled bars are handy for shoving a foot on.

Aye the top one night be a goer, it still looks like it's not quite 90 degrees but could be the picture. 17mm is what I would need.

In other news I fitted a new seal to my oil extractor. The pumper still doesn't fit very well but hopefully it will maintain vacuum better. The old seal was very swollen.

Never failed in a fight yet.

I usually undo wheel nuts and torque them up properly when garages on the rare time get a hold of my cars.
