Since 2019 all electric cars have to have a warning sound that automatically engages at less than 20 or something. There was a big fuss made at the time about each manufacture having their own signature sound. Cant say I’ve noticed and for the last couple of weeks have seen a lot in the car parks of the test sites I’ve been working at for Test and Trace. Where by the way I’m in far more danger from incompetent drivers than Covid.

Also any car I own regardless of age has to be practical- shopping trips, Sunday drives, holidays. Owning something in better condition, rarer or more high end than the A60 would probably mean me fretting over the car more and sparingly using it. I have no interest in exhibiting at shows or partaking in the local car clubs now- been there, done that and found it monotonous.

Totally agree. Haven't done a car show for some years now. The only useage limitation on mine now are salt and torrential rain but they have to be able to do tip runs, shopping and get to wherever rock and roll might (ever) occur again. Car clubs bore me to despair too.

Car shows- yes, although those that I go to are usually steam shows or country shows of some sort but with cars thrown in. One make Car clubs? Sadly, in my experience, odd at best. Some have reported back to me that they are populated by really quite unpleasant people wholely devoid of humour.

The trouble, if you like, with some one make clubs is that there is invariably a core of people who have been in it since the year dot and see it as their own. For some, their lives revolve around club affairs. More often than not this can end up as a clique and I've seen it numerous times where some kind non-member soul has offered their old car/parts/deceased relative's spares stash or whatever to the club as a whole, only for certain favoured people to be tipped off first and cherry pick the best. Or, its gone the other way when some committee member has taken it upon themselves to refuse offers of stuff which then gets scrapped.

I think with most car clubs of long-gone marques the precariously ageing committee members will steadily die off and the clubs will have to disband if new, young blood is not encouraged, which is highly unlikely as young people interested in old cars mostly know what they want and prefer socialising with people their own age.

I keep up membership of a few clubs but my only input is writing the odd article to submit to the club magazine and take part in rallies. I'm interested primarily in cars and running them, I simply don't have the time nor inclination to get involved in the politics and gossip of a flaming car club, of all things.

It's all some people have, Squire, and these are folk that would otherwise be irritant Councillors or traffic wardens. In order to keep their domestic freedom leash sufficiently slack to carry on their Club stuff they then get their wives involved at which point things really go for a ball of rat shit.

I have belonged to some local non-make clubs as well and they if anything are even worse. We even had a period in one where it was discouraged to talk about cars at club meets because the wives got bored with it. They were only happy if the road runs revolved around some fucking overpriced pub restaurant. Really, a bunch of less-enthusiastic car owners would be very hard to find and looking at the car park (unless it was an idyllic summer evening) you would be hard pressed to find any evidence of interesting vehicle ownership at all.....

Wait till electric cars are common place. The only noise then will be the difference between a Michelin, Dunlop or a Nankang.

I'm happy that this is the factory exhaust. The V6 is muffled so heavily to be almost silent.
