You should have put light oil on it, not WD40.

WD40 is not a lubricant.

I'd have used spray grease if there wasn't room to press grease into the bearing.

Well it's done now. Next time it comes out is for a replacement motor.
On the subject of removing things, summertime may mean a dash board removal and tracing water leak. Its started a bit down the side of passenger foot well it's running down from behind dash so either going to be windscreen or battery tray. Battery tray didnt look bad but neither does the windscreen! Captain tolleys creeping crack cure just wont cut it

Tolleys is shit, you need a can of comma seek n seal! Or get some roofing primer and pour over the suspect joint. Burns great too.

Less annoying tag line.

I've had some good results with Tolley. Like any substance it all depends what the problem is and whether that problem is within its capabilities. Mine seemed to be that having had two replacement screens in my time with my van there was all sorts of sealant residue and gunk - I know it should be removed but short of bare metalling it all it don't all come off....

Tolleys seemed to be able to stop water finding a way into the cab after sealant or silicon residue or whatever it was prevented the rubbers from completely sealing properly - particularly in the bottom corners where rain run-off just sat until it permeated somewhere.

It is a very thin compound and I would imagine works best in this kind of capillary situation whereas something a lot beefier is often called for......

Just tried some on my c15 windscreen rubber. I sealed it all with proper windscreen sealant earlier in the year which worked great. However it's pissing in again now. Fingers crossed it helps. Next year I'll put a new seal in when I paint it.

You reminded me of the angry Thompson's Water Seal fella.

Nobody seems to have found the roof version of the advert. Never before, or since, has there been such anger in advertising.

I believe it's now coming through the battery tray. It didnt leak before I swapped battery and cleaned all the detritus out of there. It's not major but something I'd like to rectify. Probably will put some rust treatment around the battery tray and some sealant of some description. Theres no holes visible but it may be just a pin hole or 2.
