France in the mid to late seventies was indeed a wonderland to an English car spotter. Cars you'd never seen before - Ami 6, Panhards, DS19's. Even the Minis were different, both the traditional and the Innocenti 90/120. Fords were quite rare, VW's were driven by German tourists. Everything else was French. Early corrugated bonnet 2CV's were still around in small numbers and in 1977, I saw an Alfa that hadn't been launched in the UK, the 116 Giulietta. Mercedes and BMW were still an exotic rarity outside of their homeland.

I’d never seen an ami 8 before until my first trip to France in 1990 aged 10. They’d ceased to exist by the late 80s where I grew up.

I still saw a fair amount of yellow headlights in Paris when I visited in 2003.

Rendezvous was used as the music video for a Snow Patrol song a few years ago. It didn't use the the whole film, and the engine noise was gone, but it might have lead a few people to the full film. song was a bit bollocks though.

They made quite a few of these in Stockholm in the Nineties.

Thanks RBJ.

This is the first time I've actually seen it, I've known about it for ages but never bothered to watch it.

I bet the drivers of those bin lorries wondered what the hell was going on, as did the pigeons, who seemed to have far better reaction times than British ones.

Would be much better if the dubbed-on soundtrack was of a 2 cylinder Citroen.!
Watch it again with no sound, appreciate the smoothness of the driving and the miraculous lack of traffic.

It was filmed in the early hours of the morning, hence it being so quiet.

I revisited the same place I went on a school trip to in 1989 a couple of years ago (Boulogne).
I took a load of photos of brand new Range Rovers and XJS’s being loaded onto the ferry.
France still has that vibe today, and you still see the odd yellow lights.
