He has a valid point with these creeping Septic-isms but I am not guilty of it, certainly not intentionally anyway.

On the subject of workshop manuals, English Ford service books from time immemorial have been, unsurprisingly, peppered with US terminology. Even Nuffield have not been entirely innocent.

That's true, Ford were definitely the worst offenders in that respect, there was a period when 'HOOD' was emblazoned on the bonnet catch pull. I suppose when Home manufacturers were always looking to America for their styling and engineering cues it was bound to creep in to some extent.

When Ford had 'HOOD' on the bonnet pull on a 105E, that was when Americana was fashionable. It isn't now of course, yet YankSpeak seems to permeate all walks of life, mainly spoken/written by those who should know better. It's mainly Men trying to be progressive and cutting edge. To anyone educated of course, it looks quite silly.

A good example of the gradual butchery of English is 'specialism' - this was most likely contrived for idiots who cannot pronounce 'speciality', the poor lambs. You have to feel for them really.

I always thought they put "hood" on there because "bonnet" wouldn't fit.....At least it was labelled, Morris were content to let you grasp for a bent end of coat-hanger on whichever side made sense in the drawing office.

I wonder how many people opened a Zodiac convertible bonnet instead of dropping the powered part of the roof, though?

There's a mod for Suzuki SJs to get a lower low range known 'rock lobster'.

Cycling the battery has put a big nail in the coffin lid. Recent hydrometer readings show it as flat.

And so, with nothing more to lose I drew off as much electrolyte as I could, down to the top of the plates, and topped it up with the acid supplied for filling when new, in the hope this would increase the S.G.
I also administered a double dose of the pills to each cell.

They soon dissolved. I am not hopeful the battery will be miraculously resurrected - I'm just playing about with it now to see if these actions make an improvement.
