Aye, most of my darkest Minor moments have been discoveries made whilst bodging an exhaust, adjusting the clutch or changing oil.

Prior to this grim discovery I replaced most of the braking system. I only use genuine parts as there are vast differences in construction and fit with the modern reproductions.


That said, I still had to file an indentation in the rear shoes so they could sit securely on the adjuster.
Below, this was before I started, most wheel cylinders had seized up through standing idle for years. By the looks of it they had all been replaced before the car's lay up.


New drum by the look of it, brake fluid leaked all over.


My NOS parts, fitted very easily.


I guess these are 7" drums which are correct for my 948cc model.


The rear shoes were a devil to fit on account of the springs, I just could not lift them onto their seating due to the spring tension so I gingerly levered them into place. I adjusted the brake shoes and bled them, starting from the wheel furthest from the master cylinder and working around towards it. Sadly the pedal still went right down to the floor despite there being no leaks and all shoes adjusted. However the pedal could be pumped up and braking satisfactory. Today I adjusted the master cylinder push rod, you have to be careful with this and study the instruction book. But so far it seems to have taken up the slack and the pedal no longer goes to the floor... we'll see how it behaves in the morning when all the pressure will have released.

What are you going to do in 20+ years time when all these NOS parts dry up?
