Nah, it was even easier than that.
I twiddled the seatbelt pretensioner connections under the front seats and it went away. It even uses the same sort of yellow wiring connectors like an old Peugeot. I had the same symptoms in an old 306 a few years ago, and they were solved the same way.
Thread title edited in anticipation of the Civic leaving on the back of a low-loader tomorrow morning.

A nice easy fix, if you've had a 306 you'll well know that those bloody connectors are notorious.
Pity about the Civic but that certainly didn't look like a 5 minute job.

Aye, with the bits I've sold off it already plus the price I'll get for scrapping it, I'll have most of my money back.
I'm losing less than I would trying to weld it up. While underneath taking the tow bar off it was noticed that the entire back end of it was a wee bit crispy too. Over the bridge it can go! It can take its very lenient past MOTs with it, too.
I'll still keep my eye out for something vaguely 90s and boxy and squishy to waft around in alongside the Alfa, but it's not an urgent need. Something like the Saab 9000 I had until recently [frantically kicks self].

I reckon I another year that would have gone from crispy to frilly at the back.
Shame you were stung on it a bit but stuff is usually very cheap for a reason.
Or you could be like me and get stung on one for full market value!

Aye. It's made me realise that cheap bangers aren't as readily available as they used to be.
Most cars for sale now aren't even particularly cheap but are still piles of scrap!
