Yet I have no intentions of tracking it!

I just want something nice again, and with the ability to confidently overtake dawdlers on A-roads.

I have driven an Alfa round Knockhill before. It was somebody else's 156 2.4 JTD, estate. Made a nice noise because 5-cylinder, and went fairly well.

The E36 316i is now on gumtree at a price that is somewhat taking the piss.

Let's start a count of knuckledraggers and mouthbreathers, then.

I offered it to my mate who originally bought it with me in 2016, and we were halves on it for a while.
However, he has other vehicles on his plate and we both agreed it's time to move it on and see if we can profiteer off it like the nasty people we are.

If I even get half the asking price of the 316, combined with the money from the sale of the Saab, I'll be several hundred up after paying for the Alfa.

I'd happily give you half of the asking price for the 316.

Aye, steady on. I'm nae quite that desperate yet.

If you were willing to meet halfway though, I'm sure we could come to an arrangement. Essentially, if the E36 could pay for the Alfa I'd be content. Fairly sure I undervalued that Saab too!

It goes quite fast, makes a nice noise and is reasonable on fuel. At least no worse than the BMW 316i was. Meanwhile this is significantly quicker.

It's the full-fat (bar the GTA) 2.0 twinspark.

It's already got some Italian in it. It had a window module replaced at some point, so the odometer blinks (but that could mean any number of things) and while the windows go down smoothly, they only go up an inch at a time. Cue lots of prodding the switch. It seems you can do a reset on the windows, so I may try that tomorrow.

I just got home about an hour and a half ago. I picked it up in Tamworth yesterday, drove to a mate's house in Northampton to visit, then stayed overnight in Preston. Today I drove from Preston to Tebay Services (pies!) then to Biggar to visit another mate (stayed there for a couple of hours) then to SW Edinburgh for fuel, then up via Glen Shee to Aberdeen.

In terms of fuel usage it did Northampton to Edinburgh in 3/4 of a tank, then used just over a 1/4 going from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, with some rather spirited driving up Glen Shee included. So not too shabby. Probably mid to high 30s MPGs or thereabouts.

That looks nice.

There's something about Alfa styling.
