My customised* '59 had a whip. Usually gutter-clipped near the C pillar, I used to let it go in multi-storeys so the end rattled like fuck along the ridged overhead lighting as I filled each storey up with burnt Duckhams from top to bottom. Minis were huge fun in those places.....

These Mini prices are just astounding. £3000+ for a rusting Mayfair.

Really?

I had Dunlop alloys on one of mine. Got more for those than I paid for the car. A short-lived but frenzied period of my life, just like those Minis.....

That bloody ashtray on the "transmission tunnel " in the back... bit of a fucker on the knees on a friday night eh ?

My set of dunlops were 40 quid , and i got the mini trailer 2 from a mate who bought a speed boat ,and it's trailer happened to have 2 more , so he had my steels in exchange for the 2 alloys .
IIRC a 145 x10 would fit them ok , so you didn't have to buy the 165 70 10 s

I thought they went plastic in the 80s. My Mayfair had them, I think.

Oh I know they are very overpriced for what they are. Not least that everyone one here keeps reminding me this. 😉
There are loads of cars which on paper will be many times better. Always has been with classics. I mean I'm budgeting up to £4k-5k for one and I paid less than that for my Boxster which is a far superior car on paper than pretty much everything British Leyland ever mass produced. I paid a grand for my Clio 172 which would knock the socks off pretty much every stock Mini of every type made.

However while interest rates are so low, they're not getting any cheaper. Not least that Mayfair will be Tax+MOT exempt in 2 years and that'll very likely push it's value even higher. Especially in areas where there are Clean Air Zones (like Bristol) and someone wants to run an older car. This sucks and I hate it.

So if I want to give one a go, I've just got to suck it up and pay it. I hate spending money on cars though, so I always end up concentrating at the bottom end of the market. 😆
