Cars you have yet to love or hope to love again.

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Cars you have yet to love or hope to love again.

Post by Bazfr69 »

I’m 51 and painfully aware of the fact that I’ve lived more years than I have left in front of me. One of my existential aches is centred around the cars that I may never possess or past loves that I may never get the chance to rekindle.

I have a list of course, ever in flux but I’d be interested in yours too.

To kick off...

Series I/II Land Rover
MGB GT
Karmann Ghia
Vtech Mini
Honda Acty/Daihatsu Hijet pick up
MkV Golf R32
Corrado Vr6
Minor Traveller
Renault Twizy
Honda C90 (bike but want)
Frogeye Sprite
BMW 2002
Jaguar XJS
Subaru Brat

Rekindle...

Classic Mini Cooper
Mk2 16v Golf Gti
Suzuki Samurai
Mk2 Fiesta Xr2

Unlikely even if I lived to be 200...

70s/80s 911 Targa
Classic G Wagen
356 tintop
Pontiac LeMans
Ultima
DeLorean
Mazda RX7
Honda NSX

Obv I’ll be adding to this as time goes on and my failing memory farts up some others.

Big Healey, but will absolutely never afford one so just get on with what I've got.

I'd like another MkIII Zodiac.

Also something pre-fin Fifties Yank, a shoe-box Ford maybe.

I get an occasional yearn for a sports car, currently an early Spitfire but it would be nice to find an unfinished Ford or Austin Special to play with as well.

As it seems extremely unlikely, on previous form, that I shall ever be in a financial position to do much more than replace Mrs Rocker's Focus with another Minor I shall save myself the anguish of a longer list. Replicating my Corgi Toy collection in full-size for instance......
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

Somewhat realistic:

A 6-pot E36 3 series. I had a 320i auto for a year, it was cosmetically fucked but lovely to drive.

Unrealistic:

A series land rover. Drove around in an utterly hanging series 3 when I was 17, great fun.

Totally out there:

A 1970s/80s Porsche 911. Hardtop, non-turbo, no silly spoiler or anything. Metallic brown on white Fuchs 5-spokes.
A 1957 Chevy Bel Air. I know, it's the 'basic bitch' choice of classic car but I love them.

I still fancy a Morris Minor Traveller, but won't buy one unless I get a garage.
Still fancy a Bristol, but now priced out of them.
I'm a creature of habit so any Land Rover (Series or Defender), Volvo 240 estate, A35, A40 (Devon, Somerset) or Morgan would be welcome again.
And an Austin 7, I've driven other people's but never had a working one of my own.

It's more bikes for me, but I'd love something pre-war like the original Triumph Speed Twin. Or an even older flat tanker.

Looks like Corsair's are still reasonably priced for a project.

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

Even though motorbikes are my first love I enjoy my current one so much that I don’t look back too much.
Cars however are a bit different. I’d love another go at these.
Mk 2 Granada Estate 2.8i Ghia X. Just lovely.
Citroen CX. Mine was a £250 shitbox, I’d love to try a nice one.
Citroen XM. Probably the best car I’ve ever owned.
Rover P4. I had two of those, again cheapies.
Alfa Romeo 156. Just for the noise of the 2.0 twin spark motor.
Range Rover Vogue 3.9 series 1. Man maths said I could sell the Vauxhall Zafira I had buy the Range and save money! Never trust man maths.
Cars I’d like to try but I’ve missed the boat.
Rover P6 V8.
Ford Sierra XR4X4.
Jaguar XJ Coupe.
Rover P5B Coupe.
A 50’s/60’s Yank V8.
Also a new category. Cars I’ve owned and never want to try again.
Reliant Regal.
Reliant Robin.
Austin Maestro.
Renault 20.
Austin Allegro Estate (automatic).
Toyota Space Cruiser.
There are many more but my mind has gone a bit blank.
