I Was a sometime passenger in it for a few years before buying it. I was astonished by the ride quality and just how chuckable and responsive it was whilst holding onto my passenger seat whilst cornering. N170VRW. Brilliant thing.

Bit like my SRi spec. Good for the time. I have got a sunroof but it’s seized shut. Still at least it doesn’t leak

This one must have been garaged most of its life and thankfully the sunroof works perfectly, touch wood because Peugeot. During the winter months I always make sure I wind the all the windows and sunroof periodically to try and stop things like that from happening.

Ta, I was pretty happy with the pic too, especially as it was taken on a phone. Clee Hill in Shropshire, a stones throw from where Cats in the welder lives as it happens, superb views!

I'd recommend one to anyone. I've had several people comment on how smooth the ride is over the last couple of years, which I find odd as I've had many cars and never had anyone mention anything like that before.

We had an SRDT 405 as the pool car when I worked for the Benefits Agency, it was a lovely thing really and the only nearly new car I've ever driven!

Someone at the benefits agency obviously had taste lol. Tbh in a way this is effectively the newest car I have owned, it's done at least 100K less miles than any other car I've ever had!
The 405 won European car of the year award when it came out by a greater points margin than any other car had before it and has only been equalled since, by a Golf of some sort I believe. So they must have something going for them but they have been very much overlooked since.

I totally agree. I wrote the reply above this afternoon but must have not pressed submit, doh. They are indeed very chuckable and forgiving. I think the main problem is that many people have driven worn out dogs as they were ultimately pretty reliable so many were severely neglected and that soiled their reputation? Saying that the phase one's, especially the early ones weren't meant to be particularly well screwed together interior wise.

That's why we bought an Escort rather than a 309 back when I was a kid. The Peugeot felt really cheap and nasty inside whereas the percieved quality of the Escort was far higher. I bet the 309 lasted longer...

My money would be on the 309 too. The couple of old Fords I had were strong engine and gearbox/drivetrain wise but typically for them dissolved at a rapid rate.

Nothing to report lately on the 405 thankfully. It made it to Pugfest again last weekend in the company of my mates ZX 16v this time too, yet again the weather was perfect but I couldn't be arsed taking any pictures this time around.

Now moving on to the scrappers... They don't tend to be mine but I get roped in periodically to save random pieces of shit, however there seems to be a running theme with mostly rotten French stuff. It looks like I might be doing a bit to yet another ZX on Wednesday, a Volcane TD this time. It's pencilled in but we'll see what happens.
I did get asked to sort a Disco a little while back and had to give the bad news to the owner, I did post the pics up on Autoshite but thought others might appreciate it here?

Yeah, that's uhm, fucking, fucked sorry mate I see Land Rover carried on with the same ethos they had had with my Series III many moons ago! I helped a mate out helping him and welding a quarter chassis on a 90 a bit back as it was economically viable, this one, not so much.
I've got another Justy to do too that I've started but have been struggling for motivation lately.

I'm sure one of the Johns did a epic weldathon not long ago on a modern disco, if I remember the chassis is thin sheet tacked onto angle iron corners as standard.

Yep, they seem to have moved away from box section at some point. The chassis section on this had actually split down the seam, expanded and twisted. I couldn't see how you'd have a chance of just welding it without jigging it too as the suspension partsfixed to it were now out of spec and I had no reference to put them back in place. I bet the ride was great with the shock absorbers snapped off

Well. it looks like the ZX Volcane is too far gone to be worth doing sadly so will be broken for spares by the looks of it? I've more photos but there seems to be a 5mb file size limit?

There is indeed a 5mb limit, most forums seem to have lower limits than that in my experience. If you use something like pixresizer https://pixresizer.en.softonic.com/ you can shrink whole folders of pics to more sensible sizes. Most stuff I upload I use that with the max dimension set to 800pixels & they come out about 70-80kb.
