It does seem to be pretty well built, nothing inside is hanging off, it weighs about 1700kg iirc so it's definitely no lightweight. Like you I seem to remember these being very popular as taxis on the continent, there must have been a pretty good reason for that?

Are these rear suspension mounts you are on about? The front end looks pretty good from what I've seen, I haven't looked under the back of it. Saying that it's starting to look pretty frilly in front of the rear wheels on both sides, apparently Tom knows someone who can weld...

It was rears that killed my friend's one - very early on in life too, something silly like the first or second MOT. He was gutted, understandably.

You'd have hoped so. After a quick search it seemed some went bad a long time ago?

New and still not perfect rad is in. Meant to be self bleeding but didn't seem to want to be, hopefully we avoided catastrophe. Another boost pop trying to nurse it back home. A bit of tlc on a now redundant bracket will fingers crossed sort that at some point.

It's been fighting us again A domino effect has been occurring. When removing the bonnet sound deadening a single plastic clip head snapped off and disappeared straight down the hole for the rear most injector irretrievable. This has since melted and seems to have damaged a leak off pipe which has then sprung a leak and filled the top of the head with diesel. This car is determined to leave its mark anywhere it can it seems.

It broke down right outside a garage, one I've known my whole life, it closed for good around 3 weeks ago, very useful Thankfully there's another back in town and they were still open, 2 quid spent and some decent Gates stuff was procured.

Tom took the fuel regulator off to reduce system pressure, it seems it definitely does need it as performance was markedly reduced. It'll have to go back on but in a more suitable position for a long term install.

This could easily been a photo taken in the mid 90s with those two old barges, boarded up building and old sign.

Ha, yeah, I see your point, that's as it looked a while back. Daft thing is they've spent more money on the garage bit in the last 3 years than they had in the last 30. The trouble is a Billionaire bought the Estate behind and is in the process of buying up everything anyone will sell in the local area. My mate lives in the flat above and doesn't know who to pay the rent to at the mo.

As for barges, the Merc yes, the 405 you cheeky git! It weighs circa 1100 kg's so approx 600 less than the E Class You may well be surprised at just how well it handles and absorbs bumps? The chassis was class leading when it came out, in fact it won car of the year by a margin that's only ever been equalled and never beaten if you look it up.

Thinking of the 405, it did get a bit of tlc a couple of weeks back. Surprised what that clay bar fetched off tbh as it didn't look too bad before I started, that was the chap that came off the boot lid alone.

The bumper black worked pretty well too. I washed the car a couple of years ago and the machine up the road packed up when it came to the rinse. There must have been too much residue left on the rear bumper and when it didn't get washed off properly it stained the bumper, I was not a happy bunny.

I drove the Z for the first time in nearly twelve months yesterday to enjoy the sun and use as a yard stick for the E class. Verdict, the E class definitely pushes you back in the seat harder. I took Tom with me as he'd not been out in it before and were both in agreement, not bad as the Z goes OK for a hairdressers car.
