What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

The Diesel Rover 75s could be had with the same thing - called a "parking timer" the idea was you could get/keep the car warm for a period using the FBH. One particularly beardy member over on the 75/ZT forums connected his FBH to a separate can of cherry in the back!

In the Disco3 the FBH comes on only when the engine is running (and the tank's not low) below 5c to help the engine warm the coolant. But you can buy various flavours of bolt on electrickery to allow the thing to run on a press of remote - or for some you can text them to start it. It doesn't operate the heater fan though, so although you can get heat straight away, it won't be warm to climb into.

The 75 (same FBH unit) -

Finally got round to the exciting task of changing a brake light yesterday. It's always coming loose as a bit of metal has fallen off. So I tried to glue it back into place.

It was held on by a stupid tiny bit of melt plastic that'd snapped. For some reason the super glue wouldn't set so after a dig in a coffee jar.

It was a twat to make sure it was working on both elements had to be just right (never noticed thought that the bulb has the little bayonet connection at different heights) but eventually it worked. I could have swapped it with the other full plastic part I have but the indicator didn't work on it.

The odd height pins are so you can't put them in the wrong way around & get a bright tail light & dim brake.

It didn't matter which way it went in though it would only light one element until it was in exactly the right place touching the big metal strip down the middle. It's bearly in contact with any of the bulbs. I'm sure it saved pennies on not having a full metal socket.

Thought super glue glued everything. Now I know it doesn't.

Super glue was designed for the Vietnam war to glue cuts and bullet holes together while in battle. Rambo style.

I dismantled this poor thing today. Only done 95k. Started at 8am and most of it was in the back of the rented Transhit at 12.30.

I fucking hate Transits. The most uncomfortable van ever because of the terrible driving position - if you're 6ft or close like me, your right leg aches like fuck after an hour. And Christ was it slow. Always a gamble with Enterprise and you pray for a Trafic/Vivaro.
