Don't know whether the picture will attach or not, but after a shopping trip in the Westminster I thought I'd try getting some life into the Gazelle. Resounding failure so maybe a tow start tomorrow if there's time.

Lovely motor. I would not tow start, but try a fresh battery and have the starting handle on standby. C.B. points will just want a clean.

I'll try again in the morning, it was a fresh battery but all I was getting was a clunk from the starter when I turned the key. Time was pressing by then but it was an entertaining diversion for ten minutes after a lovely (and essential) shopping trip out on deserted roads in the Austin.

Hm, could be the starter pinion stuck in mesh with the flywheel. There should be a square nut on the end of the starter, possibly under a cover you have to prise off, you can turn to free the starter. Other times I have had this fault the bolts securing the starter to the engine backplate have come loose.
