What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

It did come with a paper gasket. I even went to the trouble of making sure all the bolts were torqued up correctly.

If it came with a gasket I would fit it as to seal without one it needs to be very precisely made. I expect a genuine pump would be ok but a pattern one needs the gasket to bring it within tolerance.

One of the joys of living in the countryside.
Hadn't the cocks crowing already woken you up?

Unusually (and aside from the usual chorus of fartarse exhausts on Fiestas) the noisiest thing here this morning was some cat screeching like flip in next door's garden. By the time I'd worked out where it was coming from my neighbour was out in her garden chasing it away.

This morning i am trying to finish off the electrics on the AMC - tidying up and redoing some wiring related to the indicators, rear lights and the number plate light.

Oh, and fitting a new air filter to the mower - old one looks as if it may have been the one it came wioth more than 20 years ago.

Also the instructions for the pump said specifically not to use joint sealing compound. I was tempted to ignore that advice but decided to follow the instructions to the letter.

That's where you went wrong. Whenever I open a box of anything I bin the instructions immediately.
Most proper blokes do anyway.

I used the paper gasket but it didn't seem to do it's job. Was a genuine Valeo so should have been reasonable quality.

What was telling is that the old pump had both the gasket and RTV. Including stuck around the pump shaft...

Finally completed (just about) the wiring for the AMC rear lights and bumper.
I am not sure it's any better than it was before I started - but that's the idea, right?

You do now, however, have the surety of knowing what everything is supposed to do though.
