Van wasn't particularly great. I know it's seems to be the done thing to berate these transits, but they're not as good as the older ones. Juddery accelerating, engine devoid of torque and the cabin is very boomy to the point of being unpleasant.

Weather has been something else today! Not particularly nice driving it down the motorway with the strong wind and a van load of stuff I really didn't want getting damaged.

All done now, apart from a load of stuff to go down the tip. Also need to find a home for oil, solvents, welding cylinder, etc. Storage facility doesn't allow that it them for obvious reasons. I've got some expensive stuff in storage, so if the place did go up, I didn't want my insurance to be null and void because of a few bits of flammable liquids stored.

Absolutely knackered.

A slight trace of K seal on the gasket.

Ye god's I bet that was unpleasant with the winds, the Luton's aren't exactly nice with a bit of a breeze...

Blimey that's not just blown a little bit had it? Are you going for the long term fix with new dowels and all the modified parts?

I knew it would come, just at what cost! Both financially and emotionally/stress level.

Problem is that the onward purchase isn't done yet. If it's not done by the beginning of March I will have to be looking for cheap hotels.

Trying to get the Dolomite transported over to storage at the moment and waiting for a quote from a local recovery firm. I'll pull the Boxster out and the Dolomite will take it's place for now, until we move. At least the Boxster is drivable. I wish I had a pre 97 license. So much less hassle if I could have just rented a trailer and did it myself.

As an alternative to a hotel you could look at holiday accommodation as it'll be a bit more than a month before Easter so you might be able to do a deal.

Doesn't look very nice, but the N type modified oil rail isn't going to help in this instance. From what I understand for a multi layered gasket to work you need the liners to be a consistent height, 4 thou above the block face ideally. Mine vary between 1 and 3, so it will get the polymer gasket which is said to cope better in this situation.
As far as I can tell the majority of the coolant entered the sump via the inlet manifold gasket- this item was broken between the inlet port and the manifold waterway. Sometimes there was a misfire on starting and the combustion chamber nearest this is different colour to the other 3.
In the spirit of not polishing a turd I have adjusted the quality of consumables which will be lavished on the wretched vehicle in the future. Thus along with the14 quid head gasket, I'm pleased to have found lubricant at £12 a gallon including delivery.

(Silver Hook, surely the scabbiest ever name) A bit mean of me, but its not as niggardly as Landrover were when they built it using old knicker elastic.

I did 12 months working away with my old man some years back, we saved a fortune doing this or approaching bed and breakfasts directly. You may be surprised at what sort of discount booking for a month solid or more gets you. A couple of them even allowed his girlfriend at the time to stop for a few days too at no extra charge so we had a decent evening meal to go back to. This time of year should be prime for bartering rates.

What part are you struggling with? You can get a very lightweight car transporter trailer and shift old stuff (lightweight) and come in under the 3.5t gross rule depending on your tow car.

AirBNB then approach the owners directly to ask what deal they can do longer term, most will be delighted not to have to do a full clean and fix broken things every day.
