It fired up before but died as soon as I released the brake. I'll try again tomorrow with a charged battery.

I can't imagine that being the correct battery for a mid 80s vision.
I always thought the gel batteries required specialist charging systems do you couldn't mix and match with lead acid or sealed lead acid

Nope. There's an old fashioned bike repair place down the road, I'm going to take it there. He mot'd it and serviced it for me.
