I think I might have found why my 14 has been so damn thirsty for a while. I've finally got around to testing the resistance on all the sensors that affect the fuelling. The oil temp sensor seems way out so the ECU will be thinking the engine is stone cold all the time, which would also explain why it stays on fast idle so long.

This is the chart you get in the manual to test against

Now from that I'd expect about 15--200KOhms at 10c, roughly speaking. But I'm getting a reading of 1,100KOhms. I'm going to compare a mate's GSX14 at the weekend to confirm I'm not going mad, but if their's reads more like what I expect I'll be looking for a new sensor.

No idea, it's a bugger to get out as I need to remove an oil line first & as the bolts have never been out I suspect they'll fight back. I plan to take it out at the weekend so I can bring it indoors. I doubt it's out of range though as it's a temp you'd expect engines to work in so it'd need to know how warm it is to control the fuelling.

I know a few people locally with the same bike so I'm going to pop over to theirs at the weekend & see what readings I get off their bike to compare.

Wouldn't really be expecting anything to be running continuously for long with an oil temp of 10c though so the fuelling may just go to a default warm up map when resistance is above a certain value.

That is true, but I'd expect it to know if it's 10c or -10c for how long to run the warm up map.

I'll see what readings I get of my mate's bike tomorrow.

Update for this, I'm pretty convinced my sensor is faulty. I tested a mate's 14 today & his was showing just under 100 KOhm at 12-13c, so mine has to be faulty to be showing 1,100 KOhm just a few degrees colder.

New sensors are about £130 from Suzuki, but if the new one does almost 20 years like this one did then it's not a bad price. I'll get one ordered up & should be able to prove the issue is fixed some time in January.
