Having bought and sold a few 190 Mercedes over the last couple of years I reckon it's worth fuck all.
People are asking silly money for them and never actually sell them.

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

Just don't, the engines aren't repairable as audi can't or won't supply parts when the chains stretch.
Buy the petrol one instead.

Looks to have a few aftermarket options on the A6 3.0 tdi lumps? Not heard that they aren't repairable. Obviously a massive and expensive job that most don't bother given most of their resale values now.

Not sure I'd say the equivalent age FSI petrol is much better and without issues either. But then £2k is cheap enough to be throwaway as I bet they're worth reasonable amount as scrap?

My uncle had (possibly its still has in a barn with the engine in bits) a diesel that developed a rattly timing chain and required gears chains tensioners the lot, except you can't actually buy the parts rendering the engine scrap....
Actually I have no idea what became of that in the end as this was several years ago now, I know he was having some interesting* discussions about it as it wasn't an old or high mileage car at the time.

That's just it. If it shits itself, I'll just scrap it and buy something else. We don't do many miles anyway and could probably do without a car tbf. If it does go belly up I'll just get the 107 back off my mother.

Picked the Merc up today and it looks like he might change his mind about selling it. He has owned it about 20 years so is quite fond of it. I put it up on the ramp and there is actually very little rust with the only holes on the inner front wings just below the headlights so not an mot fail. I had the pull the carb off to free off a stuck float valve and hopefully it will fire up on monday when I get some new plugs as it is only firing on 2 cylinders at the moment and the plugs are in a dreadful state.

Can't blame him for keeping that - it looks tidy enough, if mine had been carb I'd probably still have it. I prefer those early cars without the Sacco panels too.
