What's it wurf mr ?

Post by panhard65 »

Ok I have a customer who has a shonky collection of cars and he wants to get rid of a few. He has an Audi A8 that is a non runner which seems fuel pump related but he still thinks it's worth about a grand mind. The next one which I have to go out and pick up tomorrow is a D reg Merc 190. It is a base model 1.8 with a carb. I got it to run today but it is on stale fuel and not running well. It looks ok just dirty and has a very good but basic interior. It hasn't done a lot of miles but has been stood for about 8 years. He doesn't mind spending a couple of hundred on it if it is likely to see about a grand back. I will post pics tomorrow if anyone is interested and has an idea what it's worth before I spend much time on it. His other heap is a Rover 75 V6 I know I did the thermostat and all the pipework a few years ago but it has probably sat 2 or 3 years but is a runner so he said. Are any of them worth owt or should I just contact car take back.

The '86 merc will be worth a few quid I'd imagine. What's the rust situation like?
I think the 75's are still pretty common and unless it's a good runner with mot, it won't be worth much.
An A8 non runner is scrap imo.

Just opinions.

Do you like him?

If not tell him about the beige and that he could advertise them there for free.

He is a nice bloke and been a long term customer so I couldn't be that mean. He is only selling up as he has decided to only have one toy and bought himself a DB7 V12 thing. It looks nice enough but I just think it's a Jag, are they chain or belt drive for the cams on them ?

I'd concur, the A8 is worth a decent amount for scrap, the 75 is worthless and the Merc may be worth something.

Merc 190 possibly got a bit of street cred nowadays. Even if tatty I'd expect it to be worth something.

Maybe a carb Merc 190 might be up mercrockers street? Given the k-jet nonsense on the one he had put him off it.

Is the A8 diesel or petrol? Presumably diesel if fuel pump related.

190s are currently hot hot HOT! They seem to be fetching decent coin and the base ones are (for some reason totally unfathomable to me) especially so. Barge thread on Pistonheads love and adore them.

A8 is an Audi and therefore worthless even when new and should be ritually burned while dancing round it naked...

I thought that 75s were on the up currently and when a year or two ago they were a few hundred quid for runners and drivers with a bit of test, now they are a couple of grand (the world really has gone fucking mad!).

Of course, this all depends on if they are cars or sheds, but even a shed should fetch reasonable coin to some mug... just not me unless the 190s an auto in red with cream leather...

190E 1.8 will fetch a grand at auction. They might get put up for big money but rarely fetch it unless exceptional. The carb will help in getting it to run properly but won't help the value.

The 190's seem to be fairly popular for Superturbodiesel conversions too. I'd prefer my mates lump to be in one of those than the E Class estate. Any pics of it, I'll send them to him.
