I bought a TR7 book years ago by David Knowles. Such was the in-fighting, there was no way Triumph engineers would have allowed the O-series in. The 16v Sprint engine obviously fits in without a trouble into the TR7. The extra power boost with little weight difference would have made it a good steer. Alas the Sprint engine wasn't the most hardy of units and reportedly cost Triumph a lot in warranty claims in the Dolomite.

Like the Jag guys with the Rover V8 for the XJ40 although they had far more reason in my book.
I've got quite a few motoring books and a common theme is that the O series 'TR7' would have been badged a MG.
I've forgotten the codename it was given but seem to remember that there were a few running about. There was apparently also a turbo O series version but I can't remember how far that got. I guess that was for export to places where car tax increased exponentially for capacities over 2 litres. The Lynx development apparently was planned with both O series and the V8.
