MGCs do command a higher price due to having a properly sized engine.

Apparently too front heavy with that boat anchor up there. Also power to weight the 1800 is similar. Downton tune the MGC and the car has what it should have left the factory with.

When I was in the MGOC years ago the few people with them said it was more GT than sports car but handled a lot better than folklore says. Allegedly the original press reports were down to the cars being delivered to them with the front tyre pressures too low.

I do know the tweaked ones used to go damn well down fun roads & make an excellent noise.

Yes I have heard they're better than the original road tests. But the 1800 is still a nicer and better setup car to drive. The V8 is similar weight to the 1800 and so doesn't affect the balance either.

My personal experience is chasing one down coming out of a BL/BMC show in Gaydon. Going by the amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust, he was giving it a good go. On the straights he pulled away, however on the corners I could easily close the gap.

It's got a Richard Longman tuned engine and if I remember correctly he is ex Downton Engineering and has a very good reputation.

In theory the front suspension is a far better design so you could probably ameliorate the engine weight to a certain extent, along with having the correct tyre pressures and probably specific tyres.
