What model number is the radio?

I might have a schematic, but my Volvo Sound bothering is on earlier units (late 70s/early 80s)

Aaaah, I did think it was weird as I'd only ever seen capacitors burst at the tops. Although I didn't think anything that was soldered onto the board would also be glued, it makes sense I suppose as it's only the largest capacitors that have it.

The radio is a CR-702.

Vibration causes the component legs to work harden and then break. Have you had a good look underneath for dry solder joints?

When you said you fiddled with the pots, did you touch the ones on the boards? Don't touch them otherwise they will be a pia to reset into the right position without a service manual. They'll be for stuff like getting a Voltage Controlled Oscillator to the right frequency for the IF stage of a receiver, setting the bias voltages for the various parts of the tape deck, etc.

Sheefag recommended this recently on AS

May well be worth a try if it's a dodgy pot (fnarr) as it apparently did the trick.

Made for Volvo by Alpine.

According to my not-very-good cataloguing system, I don't own one...

I see your code. Am I right or a meringue?

Pretty sure these run a separate amp, I've got the wiring digram here (useless site won't let me attach 56MB / 192 page pdf)

Mr Fowler will probably have the manuals, but I wager he probably doesn't have unencrypted ones. The Volvo Classic DVD with the 200/300/700 green books are copy-protected pdf tosh. What that means is, if you need to print something out to take outside to work on the car, it'll only let you print it off in potatocam resolution, which for wiring diagrams is illegible pish. When I was less over-worked, I pissed away some idle days picking away at 700-odd pdfs to make them legibly printable.

I do have a CR-611 equaliser unit somewhere which would go in the slot next to the fag light. That would enable you to crank up the B-line.
