You put the long bolts in in place of the originals and slowly release the spring pan a bit at a time one side then the other if that makes sense.
The Midget front spring setup looks the same as the MGB. When I did the MGB bushes I didn't do any of that. Just put a Jack under spring pan, release top bolt, knock out bolt with a drift and then release jack. When pan was slowly released, it took the tension off the spring.
Googling shows someone doing similar on the Midget:

all drivers whose car, motorcycle or van is due for an MOT test from 1 August will be required to get a test certificate to continue driving their vehicle.
Ah bollocks, no extension for the Jaaag then (due 22nd Aug)

Nah white people will still need MOTs, to apologise for forcing them to maintain their cars to the same standards.

I was making some half-arsed attempt at cutting the grass on Saturday, when I just finally lost it with my 1990s shit mower. (Partner 431S plastic-decked pile of shit)

I don't think it was stepping in some cat shit that made me flip. It was more the sluggish tone of the crappy 4.5hp Tecumseh engine whilst trying to do the front that did it. I tried to do the verges after and it wouldn't run for more than a few seconds. (It was the carb) Also the deck is dead as the plastic is splitting where the grass box hangs. It was a freebie and I don't know how/why I've put up with it so long, but I have/had.

To remedy the situation I went mower shopping. I went to a local place that does proper mowers and stayed well away from the big box stores with their chinesium shit, with "heritage" brands stuck on them. Uncharacteristically, I bought something BRAN KNEW

Instead, I've accidentally ended up with something FRENCH FFS!

Good mowers, I've got one of those. It even survived being caught under two foot of floodwater once.

As for the Partner, I'm surprised it's a Tecumseh, my Partner hedge trimmer is made by Huskvrna. Good quality tool.

Very posh Eddie. You can't hide money, as they say.

My local agricultural auction has gone online which has made the prices go silly. That is probably a good thing, as I might buy less unneeded shit.

I did win this flymo of unknown condition today.

It can be added to the list of petrol and diesel lawn mowers I have lying around.

Annoyingly, I missed out on this bale elevator.

Do I have hay bales? No
Do I even have a field of hay? No

Good to know. However I'm on much higher ground to the Liffey, so unlikely to test it that manner.

It's from the days when it was part of Electrolux Outdoor Products. ANCIENT. I did acquire a 491SCP gratis when I went to find a brass carb float. It was missing a front wheel, grass box and a couple of bits. The 49x decks are a bit stronger around where the handle slots in. I was going to plonk the Centura 45 engine onto it and then rebuild the Centura 55 engine and then sack off the rest. Then I remembered how many car projects I've got on the go and that life is too short.

I had a €200 gift MasterCard to use (works Covid bonus) to spunk away and take the sting out of it. My only reservation is I don't own this grass and whilst I've been here 8 years, I'll probably get my jotters now I've bought a decent mower.

A Pug and BMW update will happen soon when I have recovered.

Worth good money secondhand if you ever part with it. Watch the air filter cover though. Mine came off and a mowed it.
