My new Honda Civic

Post by CLINT »

Well today I had a phone call to go and rescue a young employee of a friend. Somehow he spun his Focus and knocked three tyres off the rims. I turned up with some Xantia wheels and got the car mobile enough to get on the trailer. Some of the wheel angles were a bit skewed though. It now has slight rear wheel steering.

So anyway, on the way back it transpired that he had an old Honda he wanted rid of so without seeing it I offered to take that instead of payment.

It turned out be be better than I thought

When we talked about it, my idea was just to weigh it in. Good cats on these too...

But I've had a good look at it and it's way too good to break up. These old Hondas will last indefinitely, they were so well built. It's a sport.

Lovely engine. So it should be having only done 106,000 miles. Only a 1.4 though

Oh and it's been parked up on a public car park for six months and the cat has been nicked.

So what on earth do I do with it? It would be wrong to crush it. I don't need it particularly either. It should test easily enough but can you imagine the clientele this would attract if I tried to sell it???

Replacement cat shouldn't be too bad because they won't use the same rare metals as the original one. But be careful about getting a very cheap one if you are keeping the car. A cheap one will get through about 2 MOTs.

I weighed in a cat and got very little for it,- how much do the cretins who nick them get? I can imaging the hacking mess they make doing it...

Yeah I know about cats and their values. I know where I can get good money for genuine ones and they will buy aftermarket ones for £3 a piece but I've kept a few. I have one that hasn't seen many miles, I might stitch that in.

Oh and the headlining is really saggy. I'm surprised at this, I thought this only happened on the equivalent Rover models.

They have done very neat job on this. Scrapyards won't give you much for cats, you need to take them to a specialist. I wait til I've got a few hundred quids worth before I make the journey. I don't get many these days though. Some are worthless, others are worth hundreds. Some I've taken range from genuine Clio cat that is worth £15 ranging up to £350 for a Mercedes Sprinter. Manifold cats not worth much, £30 max. I

I can give a better price than a scrapyard if anyone want to sell one.

I've seen new Chinese cats on eBay for £25 new. Can the light fingered tell the difference? If so it would be worth the Kosher manufacturers doing a special edition in a shitty looking can for selling in Corby.

My mate raves about Hondas like this, he has 2 Accords one of which may see the road again when his KIA Magentis goes.

I’m interested in it if it’s still available Clint as I need a runabout to take the miles off Scarlet
